Gov. Peter Obi not sincere over power shift

Governor Peter Obi’s campaign that the next governor of the state must come from Anambra North has been described as a ploy to deceive the electorate into making a wrong choice in the November 16 governorship election. This view is being canvassed by two groups, Odinma Anambra North Initiative and Omambala Welfare Association led by Chief Augustine Anekwe and Comrade Tony Igwenma respectively. They said that if Governor Obi’s intentions were genuine, he should have allowed people from the area to adopt a candidate of their choice.
Reacting to reports   in some national dailies by Gov. Obi’s political associates, led by Dr Tim Menakaya that a certain group-Omambala Union will sanction one of the respected Anambra North political leaders, Hon. Ralph Okeke for accepting to be a running mate to Sen. Chris Ngige of APC just because it is the turn of the North, the groups explained that Gov. Obi was just protecting his business interest by planning to hand over Anambra State to a former director of Fidelity bank for the next eight years.

NIGERIA RANKED 147 OUT OF 189 IN WORLD BANK’S DOING BUSINESS

With no major economic reform between June 2, 2012, to June 1, 2013, Nigeria has been ranked 147 out of 189 nations in the World Bank’s Doing Business report released Tuesday.
The top African countries in the list are Mauritius at 20 position, Rwanda 32, South Africa 41, Tunisia 51, Botswana 56, Ghana 67, Zambia 83, Morocco 87, Namibia 98 and Cape Verde 121.
In addition to the global rankings, every year Doing Business reports the economies that have improved the most on the indicators since the previous year.

OBIANO’S RUNNING MATE ADMITS GRAFT IN OBI’S GOVT

The deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr. Nkem Okeke, Tuesday admitted a degree of corruption in Mr. Peter Obi’s administration when he said the reason the state had not exceeded its current level in the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) was because people were printing receipts and sabotaging the revenue generation.

Okeke, on his part, said “In a situation where people are printing receipts and  and there are leakages at the expense of the state, such funds are bound to deplete, but the government of Willie Obiano will improve upon what is on ground."
Okeke  who claimed that more money could be made by automating the market system however stopped short of answering the question from the panelists which specifically requested him to state the current revenue profile of the state from IGR and went ahead to state where his government would take the revenue base.

EDUCATION SECTOR IN ANAMBRA STATE (MDG's)

President Goodluck Jonathan has not played with issues of education and the Minister of education has also worked hard (Gbeneol).
She explained the 500 buses were financed by the Federal Government in partnership with the state government. Gbenol said she saw a number of projects that are at completion stage and asked Governor Obi if he could still complete them before his tenure runs out and since he assured that he could do that, federal government will provide him with more money to complete them. Her words: “ I have seen projects which completion will be herculean task by March next year but he has assured he will do it. He has also assured that his successor will continue where he stops. With these assurances, these buses will be a tip on the iceberg” she said, after which she proceeded to commission the buses and hand one over to the Principal of Community Secondary School, Adazi Nnukwu.

Army: 37 Boko Haram Suspects Killed in Air, Land Attacks

The Nigerian Army Tuesday said it had killed 37 suspected members of the outlawed Boko Haram sect in air and land attacks in one of its camps in a village in Borno State.
This came as the federal government yesterday said the Boko Haram insurgency in the northern part of the country was externally-induced.

However, the army in a statement by its acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations (APR), Captain Aliyu Ibrahim Danja, said the onslaught was on the terrorists camp in Alagarno village.
It added that after the onslaught, about 37 suspected terrorists were killed while several others fled with gunshot wounds.
Arsenal Wenger unhappy at Arsenal 'naivety'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger accused his side of being "naive" as they suffered their first Champions League defeat of the season, beaten at home by Borussia Dortmund.
Robert Lewandowski's late volley gave last season's beaten finalists a 2-1 victory at the Emirates.
Arsenal stay top of Group F level on six points with Dortmund and Napoli.
"We put ourselves on the back foot with the first goal and were naive for the second," Wenger said.
Gunners keeper Wojciech Szczesny had little to do in the match bar picking the ball out of the net,
Wenger said: "Look at how many saves our goalkeeper has had to make and we have conceded two goals.

Nigeria draw; Argentina, Mexico win

Two of the favourites for the Fifa U17 World Cup crown, Mexico and Argentina, gave clear statements of their intent in recording their first victories in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday.
Defending champions Mexico made amends for their heavy opening defeat against Nigeria, while Argentina moved top of their group following a draw on opening day.

The Nigerians, tipped by many to go all the way, may not have been as ruthless as they were previously, but they still showed their considerable firepower in a frenetic encounter with Sweden. The Europeans were twice in front during the match, but they had to settle for a point come the final whistle.
Shaqran, the tournament mascot, was not the only one to have an aerial view of proceedings in Al Ain during Mexico’s victory over Iraq. Somewhat surprisingly, a solitary man appeared at the summit of a mountain behind one of the stands in the first half at the Khalifa Bin Zayed stadium, enjoying a unique view of the match and witnessing from afar as Alejandro Diaz, Jose Almanza and Ulises Rivas fired Mexico to victory. Despite his vantage point, he was no doubt still unable to rival the famous Hawkeye technology used in various sports.
Canada went into their match with Iran in search of a win that would bring an end to a pair of unfavourable records. However, as against Austria in their opening fixture, the Canucks were held to a draw, their fourth consecutive stalemate at a U-17 World Cup - a run never before witnessed in the tournament’s history. It also extended the side’s win-less streak at the competition to 17 games, something only equalled in Fifa tournaments by Bulgaria (at Fifa World Cups™) and England (at Fifa U-20 World Cups).
Minister of Aviation, Stella Udah $1.6 million bulletproof BMW Car

The House of Representatives Tuesday ordered an investigation into the controversial purchase of two armoured BMW 760 Li cars by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for the Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah.

The procurement of the cars for the use of the minister has generated an outcry in the last one week, particularly in the face of conflicting reports on its actual cost and the motives for the purchase.

However, it was gathered that given Oduah’s ties with the presidency and the pivotal role she played in Jonathan’s electoral victory in 2011, this may slow down the pace of investigation into the purchase of the two bulletproof cars bought at N255 million.
But the spokesman for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. Yakubu Dati, linked the campaign against the minister to an alleged plot to stop the president from running in the 2015 presidential election, if he chooses to do so.
Necessary encouragement and protection to emerging industries in Nigeria.

Speaking at an audience with the new Ambassador of the European Union to Nigeria, Mr. Michel Arrion, Jonathan said in protecting its emerging industries, Nigeria would not be acting differently from the advanced nations of the world who, at similar stages in their development adopted measures to protect their domestic production.

He therefore called on the European Union to support ongoing efforts to ensure stable and constant electricity in Nigeria.
Jonathan commended the European Union for its ongoing support for other developmental programmes in Nigeria

War of words  over the  planned demolition of the faction's secretariat in Abuja.

The breakaway faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA) have engaged in a war of words  over the  planned demolition of the faction's secretariat in Abuja.
The FCTA yesterday insisted that the building, located in the high brow Maitama District in the capital territory would be demolished for violating the Land Use Act.

The Director of Development Control of the FCT, Alhaji Yahaya Yusuf, told journalists that  the location of the building was meant strictly for residential purposes, adding that changing  it to a party secretariat violated the Abuja master plan.
